Springs explained: why heavier isn't always harder.

Maya Okafor

Springs set the resistance on a reformer. More springs means more load, but not always a harder move. Here's why.

Heavy springs give support

In moves like footwork, heavy springs make your legs work harder. But in planks and kneeling moves, heavy springs hold the carriage still and make things easier.

Light springs demand control

A light spring lets the carriage slide away from you. Your core has to work hard just to keep it steady. That's why some of the toughest moves happen on one light spring.

How we grade our classes

Every Carriage class has a spring load: Light, Medium or Heavy. It tells you how much strength work to expect, so you can pick a class that matches your energy.
